Overview
The purpose of this manual is to help
English teachers make effective tests based on the material in the English for Cambodia (EFC) text books.
It includes a review sheet, a test, and an answer key for every Chapter from
EFC Book 4 and EFC Book 5.
Review
Sheets:
• Each review
sheet describes the topics covered in the chapter, including important
vocabulary words and grammar points.
• You can write
the information from the review sheet up on the board for your students the
class period before they will take the test. Then you can answer any questions
the students have about the topics.
• It is important that the students
understand what topics will be included on the test so that they know what to
study.
Tests:
•
There are several ways you can use the tests in this manual:
• You can give
your classes a test from this manual after they finish each chapter, and then
add up each student’s scores from one month to find out his/her monthly grade.
• You can choose
a few sections from each of the tests for the chapters you taught in one month
and combine them to make a monthly test.
• You can write
your own monthly test by using the ideas you learned from reading this manual.
• You can write
your own tests for EFC Books 1, 2, 3, or 6 by using the ideas you learned from
reading this manual.
• Before you
give your students a test from this manual you must:
• Read the test.
Check the meaning of any words or grammar points you do not understand.
• If you have
not taught some of the topics on the test, delete that section from the test. Do not test students on topics you did not
teach them. (Example: you did not teach your students about the past
continuous, so you must delete the section of the test which asks questions
about the past continuous.) You can assign more points to a different section
or add a new section so that the test still has 50 points.
• Make sure you
understand the test directions so you can explain to the students how to take
the test and answer any questions.
• If you think
the test is too long for your students to complete in the amount of time you
have, shorten it by either deleting a whole section or by deleting one question
out of each section.

Answer
Keys:
• Each section
of a test lists the number of points that section is worth. You should divide
the number of questions in that section by the number of points to find out how
many points each question is worth. (Example: Section II is worth 15 points.
There are 5 questions in that section. Therefore, each question is worth 3
points.)
• The answer
keys do not include the answers to translation questions. You can translate
from English to Khmer and use a dictionary to check your answer.
• “Writing
questions” sometimes have more than one correct answer. If so, the answer key
will either list both correct answers, or will say “accept any grammatically correct and logical answer.” It is up to
you to decide how strong each students answer is and give them the appropriate
amount of points.
• Because the answer keys are included, never
let a student read or borrow this manual. It is your duty as a teacher to
prevent students from cheating on tests.
